Our Members

SMSRAG  includes members from a variety of backgrounds; united by the common goal of fighting MS.

Paul Wilson

Retired police officer of 24 years in Derbyshire specialising in Roads Policing including collision investigation & vehicle examination.

Diagnosed with relapsing remitting MS in 2009, I have taken a number of Disease Modifying Therapies since then - the latter of which has been as part of a Clinical Trial since 2016.

I am fascinated by the level of commitment shown by health professionals towards MS & I am more than happy to share my experiences with them to help achieve their goals.

I live in the Peak District with my wife & son and enjoy live music, walking and vehicle restoration.

Brian Day

Apprentice served Engineer, now retired with experience in pneumatics and computing.

Enjoy outdoor activities as well brewing my own beer (when it’s raining) and DIY when all else fails

Became involved with the MS group as my partner, Helen was diagnosed with secondary progressive in 2008.

The knowledge within the group along with some of the useful ideas they share enable us to deal with the challenges which exist.

Jane Dovenor

I am an Occupational Therapist and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. I have past experience of working with people affected by this condition as well as being a person living with MS. I underwent a successful Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant at Sheffield Hallam in 2016 as part of the MIST trial and therefore fully appreciate the importance of research.

I strongly believe that people living with the condition should be at the heart of any research that may have the potential to change the lives of those affected with MS. As a healthcare professional and a MS patient I am able to offer views from both perspectives and provide positive input into the group, increase the profile of the disease and help disseminate findings to improve the future for other patients.

Helen Day

Worked in legal and constitutional governance field for 30 years.

Have always been active in outdoor pursuits- sailing, caving, walking, somewhat curtailed since been diagnosed with secondary progressive MS but still like to be outdoors on a good day.

For me it is important to feel proactive, doing what I can to manage my health – part of that is being involved with this group as I can learn and understand more about the research, meet and get to know they people involved.
